Laurier Alumna Jane Archibald wins a Juno Award

Laurier Alumna Jane Archibald (BMus '99) has won a Juno Award in the Classical Album of the Year: Vocal or Choral Performance category for her recording of the Haydn Arias with Orchestre Symphonique Bienne, Thomas Rösner, conducting.
This Juno Award is the latest of many honours Archibald has earned in her career; she has risen to the very top of the international operatic and
concert scene, and has performed on some of the greatest stages of the
world: Archibald has sung with the Vienna State Opera, Metropolitan Opera, Paris
Opera, La Scala Milan, Bavarian State Opera, Grand Théatre de Genéve, and Berlin Philharmonic.
Last year, Archibald made her long-awaited debut with the Canadian Opera
Company (COC) in one of her signature roles, as Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf
Naxos, which earned her a Dora Award nomination--This May, she performs the title role in the COC's production of Semele. Archibald has also received the Sylva
Gelber Prize from the Canada Council for the Arts. This past October, she returned to Waterloo, performing with students
in Laurier's orchestral, vocal and opera programs in a centennial gala
celebration.
Archibald has built her career under the continued guidance of Laurier
Voice Professor Emeritus Victor Martens, a fellow Laurier 100 Alumni of
Achievement recipient. She still returns to work with him, and she has met
with some of Laurier's music students to share advice and offer inspiration.
Marc-André Hamelin, who performed at Laurier in January as part of the MWM Distinguished Guest Artist Series, also won a Juno Award for his recording Liszt Piano Sonata on the Hyperion label, in the Classical Album of the Year: Solo or Chamber Ensemble category.
