"What can you do with a degree in Communication Studies? Where are Communication Studies graduates now, and how did they get there?" These were among the questions addressed during the first Annual Communication Studies Alumni Achievement Event, which was held on September 28, 2012. During a one-hour panel discussion moderated by Dr. Jonathan Finn, six CS alumni discussed their careers and further studies. Over 50 CS students attended the panel discussion and chatted with panellists for over two hours during an informal reception. The event, organized by Drs. Judith Nicholson and Jonathan Finn, was supported with funds provided by the Dean, Faculty of Arts, the Department of Communication Studies, the Career Development Centre, and Alumni Relations Office.
The panellists were Erika Ivanic, Hons. BA (06), a Planner for the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing; Laura McDonald, BA (06), MA (09), the Associate Manager of Publicity & Special Projects at Alternatives Journal; Marci Mosher-Mandel, BA (04), Communications Manager in Information Technology Services at KPMG; Krista O'Brien, BA (08), MA (10), Manager of Communication Strategies at Christian Horizons; Joseph F. Turcotte, Hons. BA (07), MA (08), a PhD Candidate and SSHRC Doctoral Fellow in the Communication & Culture program at York University; and Sophie Zivku, Hons.
