Waterloo Campus drop-off locations for United Way 100-ounce food-donation challenge
In recognition of Laurier’s 100th anniversary, Deb MacLatchy, vice-president: academic and chair of Laurier’s United Way campaign, has challenged each member of Laurier’s Waterloo campus community to donate 100 ounces of non-perishable food items (about four large tins of tomatoes) to support the Food Bank of Waterloo Region. Food will be collected from Sept. 15 to 20.
Laurier’s varsity athletes, with the help of Laurier President Max Blouw and Laurier senior administration, will load the donated food on the Laurier Golden Hawks Athletics bus on Sept. 21, the United Way Day of Caring. All are welcome to join the athletes and senior administration between 9:30 and 11 a.m. on Mid-Campus Drive before the food is transported to the Food Bank.
“As a university, Laurier has a long tradition of supporting our community and the great work that the United Way undertakes each and every year,” said MacLatchy. “Jan Varner, CEO of the Kitchener-Waterloo United Way says it best, ‘United Way is about commitment. Commitment to change community conditions for the better. A commitment to be change, make change and see change.’”
The United Way’s second-annual Day of Caring is about making a difference through many acts of volunteerism, with local businesses and social service agencies working together for the betterment of the community.
