WATERLOO – Wilfrid Laurier University will unveil the new RBC Career Transition Program for Students with Disabilities during the grand opening of Laurier’s new Centre for Co-operative Education & Career Development on Tuesday, October 30th.
The new program aims to meet the career development needs of the more than 750 students annually at Laurier with disabilities. The program is funded through a $700,000 donation from the RBC Foundation, and will promote specialized services and assist Laurier students with disabilities to investigate career options and transition to work.
“Thanks to RBC’s generous commitment, we are thrilled to expand our career services for students with disabilities by way of this new program,” said Jan Basso, director of Co-operative Education & Career Development. “The new career transition program will enable us to better meet the needs of Laurier’s students with disabilities through expanded programming, research and the development of resources geared towards workplace transition issues.”
“Diversity is about creating a community in which differences mean possibilities and that’s what makes the Centre for Co-operative Education & Career Development so important,” said Laura Gainey, RBC’s regional president for Ontario South West. “RBC is extremely proud to launch the RBC Career Transition Program for Students with Disabilities. This program not only benefits Laurier students, but the entire Waterloo region.”
The grand opening of Laurier’s new Centre for Co-operative Education & Career Development is scheduled for Tuesday, October 30 at 3:00 p.m. The new Centre, located at 192 King St. N. in Waterloo, will provide employers with enhanced access to Laurier’s outstanding students and graduates to help meet their recruiting needs through professional facilities and services.
To help raise awareness of the RBC donation and its commitment to diversity, local RBC branches will be running a promotion the same day, which includes visits by special Olympians to three local branches and giveaways of Paralympic sledge-hockey coins and coin collector cards.
