WATERLOO – Wilfrid Laurier University's Faculty of Music is proud to host free public concerts by the National Youth Orchestra of Canada/ Orchestra National des Jeunes du Canada (NYOC/ONJC) at Laurier’s Waterloo Campus.
The NYOC/ONJC will perform two free chamber concerts July 19 and 23 at 9 p.m., a free full orchestra performance with a pre-concert talk by NYOC/ONJC Conductor Alain Trudel July 25 at 7 p.m., and two free full orchestral open rehearsals July 26 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and July 27 from 2-4:30 p.m. in the Theatre Auditorium.
The NYOC/ONJC began its residency at Laurier's Waterloo campus in June. Participants and instructors from across Canada have been immersing themselves in preparing for their 2013 tour by collectively living, eating, performing, and practicing together.
Participants are aged 18-28, and were chosen from across Canada as the rising stars in their fields.
"Laurier's experience with the NYOC/ONJC has been terrific,” said Faculty of Music Dean, Glen Carruthers. “Welcoming incredibly talented young musicians and world-class instructors to our campus has made for an invigorating summer. The NYOC/ONJC has played a pivotal role in the lives of so many brilliant Canadian musicians and its reputation is richly deserved. The Kitchener-Waterloo community is honoured that the NYOC/ONJC is training and rehearsing at Laurier."
“The National Youth Orchestra of Canada is grateful to Wilfrid Laurier University and their dedicated staff for welcoming us to their campus for the summer,” said Executive Director Barbara Smith. “Our musicians and faculty are thrilled with the facilities at Laurier's Faculty of Music, and Dean Glen Carruthers and his team have been exceptionally accommodating. We are excited to have established this new partnership with Laurier and the community of Kitchener-Waterloo and look forward to many more summers on Laurier’s beautiful campus.”
