Envisioning Laurier Process

What are our research ambitions?

Sep 8/08

In the feedback that the Senate Envisioning Committee has heard there emerge a number of possible avenues for Laurier to pursue as it moves into the future. Decisions on which of these avenues we should take is fundamental to creating the vision for our university. Please consider the statements below, representing possible avenues, and let us know what you think. The statements below do not represent an official position of the Senate Envisioning Laurier Committee, but are meant to stimulate thought and encourage discussion:

Some think that teaching excellence and research excellence are in contradiction. What do you think? Should Laurier do more reasearch, the same, or less?

Some also think that Laurier needs to focus increasingly on excellence in research, to build centres of excellence to international standards of acclaim. What do you think? Should Laurier increasingly focus and make a few clear choices of areas in which it can excel?
