Labour Update

Negotiations well underway between university and contract academic staff

Negotiations are well underway between Wilfrid Laurier University and the Wilfrid Laurier University Faculty Association (WLUFA), the union representing Contract Academic Staff members.

The teams have met 22 times since the start of negotiations on September 14, 2010, according to a schedule developed to accommodate the teaching commitments of the WLUFA members, and the schedules of the university team. There have been no cancelations or delays by either side.

Tentative agreement has been reached on a significant number of items. WLUFA tabled its monetary proposal in November, and officially presented it to the university’s team on February 2. The parties will continue to discuss the non-monetary items already on the agenda for the February 4 (full-day) and February 9 (half-day) sessions before the university responds to the monetary proposal on the next scheduled date of February 16.

The university is pleased at the level of progress that has been made to date on non-monetary items. The university believes both sides are committed to reaching an agreement that is fair and equitable for both parties, and in the best interest of the institution and its students.
