Marcie McKay Employed with Addiction Services in Nova Scotia

M.A. Community Psychology, 2006

May 27/09

News from Marci McKay, M.A. (May 16, 2009)

I have been with Addiction Services (under "Health Promotion and Protection", NS government) since Oct. 2006. Psychology registration is slightly different in NS than Ontario and with 4 years of close supervision under a registered psychologist as well as a number of written and oral tests one can practice with an MA or MSc. I have two years of this process complete (yet to complete the tests, but the supervision is going well).
At my place of employment I mainly oversee a group therapy program that is 14 days, gender specific, and residential in nature. I also faciliate a series of day groups - some for those involved with probation orders, those receiving methadone treatment, women's support groups, etc. I was also fortunate to have piloted a 7 day program for youth and an art therapy group. I am still involved with the YAC - youth action committee - that was formed in Glace Bay, NS as part of my MA thesis.
Right now I am on maternity leave - had my first child, a baby girl we named Bailey Winnie on April 6th.  I won't be returning to work until March 31, 2010. I am head over heels and enjoying motherhood:) Hope all is well!!!
