Movement Disorders Research & Rehabilitation Centre (MDRC)
6th Annual Laurier Loop continues to support MDRC
Almost $13,000 raised for research at MDRC
The 6th Annual Laurier Loop, held on Homecoming Weekend in September, was another success. Participants registered for races of 10 km, 5 km, 2.5 km and Relay Road Races as part of the Waterloo 2013 Running Series.
Prizes were awarded in various categories such as Individual Age, Relay Teams and several Team Categories - for fun or competition. There was something for everyone.
Malcolm Almeida, 9 year old son of Dr. Quincy Almeida, Director of MDRC, decided he wanted to do his part this year. "At the research center, my dad and his students work to help people with Parkinson's disease get stronger, so that they can do the regular things that they used to do...This year, I am running in my first-ever Laurier Loop...I am trying to be the number one fundraiser." Malcolm made everyone proud by coming in 5th in his age category (15 minutes, 8 seconds) AND by raising over $2,480 (which was matched by an anonymous donor), he was the top fundraiser!
THANKS, MALCOLM. You are AWESOME!
THANK YOU to everyone who supported our fundraising efforts!
