We are pleased to announce the accomplishments of our doctoral students.


Jeff McNally (OB/HRM 1st year)

  • Will present his paper "The Mediating Effect of Procedural Justice on the Relationship between Monitoring and Turnover," co-authored by Dr. Douglas Flint (UNB), Ms Lynn Haley (UNB), and Ms. Isabela Belanger (Government of New Brunswick), at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting in Anaheim, California, August, 2008
  • Presenting his paper "If I Trust You, Will I Monitor You? A Comparison of the Agency and Embeddedness Perspectives of Trust in Workplace Relationships" at the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada (ASAC) Annual Conference, Halifax, NS, May, 2008
  • Received a research Grant from the Centre for Strategic Leadership, School of Business & Economics, for a proposal entitled "The Relationship between Commitment to a University Program and Student Discretionary Behaviours", Jeff is working on this project with Dr Greg Irving.

Mardi Witzel (OB/HRM 2nd year)

  • Will present her paper " An Empirical Integration of Psychological Contracts and Perceived Organizational Support", co-authored by Greg Irving and Samantha Montes, at the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology 2008 San Francisco, California, April, 2008
  • Will be presenting two papers "Organizational Commitment and Perceptions of Psychological Climate: Extending the Nomological Network of Attitudinal Process Variables" co-authored with Dr. Simon Taggar, and, "Leadership and Creativity: The Mediating Effects of Intrinsic Motivation, Domain-Relevant Skills, and Creativity-Relevant Processes", at the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada (ASAC) Conference in Halifax, NS, May, 2008
  • Presenting her paper "The Role of Affective Commitment in Building a Psychological Climate of Innovation," co-authored with Dr. Simon Taggar, at Academy of Management Annual Meeting in Anaheim, California, August, 2008

  • Received a research grant for proposal entitled: "Corporate Reputation and Recruitment; The Role of Signaling, Organization Identity, Fit and Expectancy Theory". Mardi is working with Drs. Irving, Sulsky, Bansal and Taggar. Fall, 2006
  • Presented at the 2006 ASAC Conference in Banff her paper "Product Innovation: The Effects of Innovator-Customer Collaboration and Learning in Complex Systems Environment" and published as part of the conference proceedings. Summer, 2006
  • Received the President's Scholarship Award for 2006.

Bruce Martin (OB/HRM 1st year)

  • Presenting his paper "Transaction Costs and Nonprofit Social Services: The Value of First-Order Purpose Alignment" at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting in Anaheim, California, August, 2008

Saba Sharih (OB/HRM 1st year)

  • Will be presenting two papers "An LMX-Based Model of Affective Organizational Commitment" and Strategic Responsiveness within an IMSA Framework - Institutional and Resource Based Perspectives" at the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada (ASAC) Annual Conference in Halifax, NS, May, 2008


Joel Marcus (OB/HRM 3rd year)

  • Presenting his paper "Conceptions of the Business-Society Interface: Implications for Responsible Management and the Business & Society Research Agenda," co-authored with Dr. Barry Colbert, at the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada (ASAC)Conference in Halifax, NS, May, 2008
  • Will be presenting his paper "What does Society want from Corporations? Toward a Theoretical Classification of Firm Actions and Outcomes", at the International Association of Business & Society Conference in Tampere, Finland, June, 2008
  • Will present his paper "Beyond CSR:Toward a Theory of Social Responsible Corporate Behaviour," at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting in Anaheim, California, August, 2008
  • Presented papers at the following conferences: "Predictors and Behavioural Consequences of Family Business Successors' Commitment" and "Organizational Effectiveness: Have We Lost Our Way? - Academy of Management Annual Meeting in Philadelphia. "Re-thinking Organization: Towards a Needs-Based Theory of Organizational Sustainability" - Administrative Sciences Association of Canada (ASAC) Annual Conference in Ottawa 2007.



Vishaal Baulkaran (FE 2nd year)

  • Presenting his paper "Valuation Effects of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act on Cross-listed Canadian Firms" at two conferences: Midwest Finance Association Conference 2008 in San Antonio, Texas, February, 2008, and the Eastern Finance Association Conference 2008 in St Pete Beach, Florida, April 2008


Hamid R. Faramarzi (OSCM 3rd year)

  • Presenting his paper "The Impact of Product-related Parameters on Pricing Decisions in a Closed-Loop Supply Chain at the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) Annual Conference in Jolla, California, May, 2008.
  • Elected as the President of the Graduate Students' Association of WLU.
  • Selected participant for 17th Annual Doctoral Symposium and Conference of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSMCP) in Philadelphia, PA, US. His attendance is fully sponsored by CSCMP. Presented a a paper at the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) Annual Conference in Dallas, TX, US May, 2007.
