Headstart: Starting off on the right foot!
May 21/08
Headstart is a
great chance for incoming first-year students to get to know the campus, their
program, and their peers a little better before beginning at Laurier Brantford
in September.
I really did not know what to expect out of Headstart. In the days leading up
to it, I was pretty nervous. Excited, yes; but nervous. I hope that after reading my account of my own Headstart day, you may know a little more about what to expect!
The day began with everyone signing in and receiving our pamphlets and folders
according to what program we were going into, which would depict part of our
schedule for the day.
Everyone was so friendly and helpful, and I was overwhelmed with how inviting
the whole atmosphere was.
Throughout the day, groups of new students were presented with useful
information about academics, residence life, adjusting to university in
general, as well as the many organizations and activities available for us to
participate in. Overall, the numerous presentations, workshops, and discussions really gave me an increasingly accurate idea of what to expect in September.
Not only did my experience at Headstart make me all the more excited to start
at Laurier Brantford, it gave me some familiar faces to look for on move-in day
and during Orientation Week. It was comforting to me to know that I had already met some great people who I would be sharing this university experience with.
By a total coincidence, I was actually lucky enough to meet one of my roommates
during one of the workshops!
On the drive home, I didn’t stop talking about how excited I was about the
people I met, the residence I had seen, and the information given to me.
At the end of this busy day, I was even more excited to say, “See you on
move-in day!”
