WATERLOO – Brian Smith, a finance professor at Wilfrid Laurier University’s School of Business & Economics, has been named an associate editor of The Financial Review.
As the only Canadian on the academic journal’s editorial board, Smith joins a team of leading researchers from around the globe and the ranks of universities such as Cornell, Purdue, Georgetown and Notre Dame.
"We are proud of Brian's appointment to the editorial board; it shows his strong commitment and contributions to Laurier's finance department and research efforts," said Ginny Dybenko, dean of Laurier’s School of Business & Economics.
As associate editor, Smith will review academic papers and provide suggestions for reviewers in his areas of expertise, which include insider trading, share repurchases and dual class shares.
Smith has published more than 30 finance-related articles in refereed journals, a number of book chapters and monographs, and holds a distinguished paper award from the Journal of Finance.
He co-founded the Laurier Financial Service Research Centre, which hosts an academic speaker series and conferences at Laurier, as well as the Laurier Student Investment Fund, an investment fund managed by students and supervised by faculty and alumni.
Smith serves as coordinator of the finance area in Laurier's School of Business & Economics and teaches courses in entrepreneurial finance and equity valuation.
The Financial Review is published by Wiley-Blackwell and presents international research that provides new insights into all areas of financial economics.
