WATERLOO – What do ambassadors, business leaders, renowned artists, social work pioneers, and Juno award-winning rap artists have in common? They are all among Wilfrid Laurier University’s 100 Alumni of Achievement.

To celebrate Laurier’s 100th anniversary, the university and the Wilfrid Laurier University Alumni Association (WLUAA) will recognize 100 of our most exceptional alumni at the Centennial Alumni Celebration dinner during Homecoming weekend on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011.

The 100 Alumni of Achievement list, which can be found at www.laurieralumni.ca/100alumni, includes a wide variety of distinguished graduates from the past century, including artist Woldemar Neufeld, former UN ambassador Paul Heinbecker and opera singer Jane Archibald, to name just a few.

"This distinguished group of 100 alumni represents a living legacy who inspire lives of leadership and purpose, and who also instill in Laurier graduates the courage to engage and challenge the world in all its complexity," said President and Vice-Chancellor Max Blouw. "On behalf of all of us at Laurier, I am delighted to celebrate this exceptional group of graduates who truly reflect the very best of our remarkable university."

All members of the community were invited to submit nominations from among the university’s nearly 80,000 alumni. After a lengthy and challenging deliberation process, 100 individuals were selected for the final list. The selection criteria revolved around the concept of leadership and purpose, with the understanding that we all show leadership by being actively involved in our personal and professional communities.

“We are extremely proud and humbled by the accomplishments of this incredible group of professional and community leaders,” said WLUAA President Tom Berczi. “It is an honour to be a member of the Laurier family of alumni alongside this group and it will be an honour to recognize the contributions of the 100 Alumni of Achievement at the Centennial Alumni Celebration dinner.”

Laurier’s 100 Alumni of Achievement recipients will be formally recognized on Oct. 1, 2011 at a dinner in their honour. All are welcome to attend; tickets will be available until Sept. 23.
