The Athlete Academic Success Program (AASP) was developed in 2007 through a partnership between the Study Skills & S.I. Centre (a unit of Learning Services) and the department of Athletics and Recreation to provide academic support to Laurier's Golden Hawk athletes through a combination of assessments, workshops, study halls, and individual consultation.

A recent study "conducted by professor William McTeer, shows that student-athletes in the 2000s are on average doing as well or better academically than other students." This study was featured on both the Laurier homepage and through Academica Group's Top Ten news items for February 1st. Learning Services is proud to play a key role in student athlete academic development.

Learning Services would like to thank David McMurray (Vice-President, Student Affairs), Peter Baxter (Director, Athletics & Recreation), and Wally Gabler (Co-ordinator: Interuniversity Sport) for their ongoing support of the AASP.

Learning Services would also like to thank all of the senior student athletes who have served as athlete academic mentors to their peers for their service: Renata Adamczyk, Steve Fantham, Dillon Heap, Chris Mamo, Matt Stonkus, Katrina Ward, and Bruce Watson.
