Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing
The Glebe Centre at the Waterloo Lutheran Seminary (WLS) is hosting a Holistic Healing Conference May 9-10 on Laurier’s Waterloo campus.
The conference involves students, faculty and alumni from WLS, Laurier’s Music Therapy program and Faculty of Social Work, as well as visiting faculty from Dalhousie University, the Toronto Art Therapy Institute, the Canadian Association of Child and Play Therapy, and other holistic healing groups.
Marie-José Dhaese, an expressive arts psychotherapist from Vancouver Island, will present the keynote address, titled “A Healing Journey for All Ages,” the morning of May 9.
The conference’s many half-day workshops will explore integrated and diverse approaches to the healing process. In that vein, workshops will be offered on a variety of healing topics, including narrative play therapy, African drumming and storytelling, sandtray therapy, music therapy, mask-making therapy, Korean and Chinese healing practices, emotionally focused therapy, the Brain Gym program, rainbow families and alternative healing in groups.
“The conference celebrates the interdisciplinary nature of healing practices, and will be of interest to faculty, students, alumni and professionals who work – or plan to work – in the fields of mental health, education, healthcare and child welfare,” said conference organizer Nancy Riedel Bowers, a faculty member at WLS and instructor at the Faculty of Social Work.
Registration is $200 and includes two days of conference activities. Students receive a discounted rate of $100 for the two days. Register at https://event-wizard.com/holistichealing/register. Interested participants are encouraged to register before April 1, when the price will increase by $20 for both students and non-students.
Breakfast and lunch is provided for both days. Trips to the Stratford Festival and Waterloo market are planned for May 10. Accommodations are available at Bricker Residence.
