Office of Aboriginal Initiatives Celebrates Student Bursary Recipients of the SUNDANCe Award

Wilfrid Laurier University's Office of Aboriginal Initiatives is pleased to announce the recipients for the 2013-2014 SUNDANCe Aboriginal Award. One thousand dollars each were awarded to University of Waterloo student, Alicia Blore, and Laurier students Marie Louise Larivière and Kristy Dockstader. These students received the SUNDANCe bursary, an award presented to Aboriginal Students attending Wilfrid Laurier University, the University of Waterloo, or the University of Guelph and who have demonstrated active involvement in the Aboriginal community.
Senior Advisor: Aboriginal Initiatives, Jean Becker, emphasized the importance of giving back to the aboriginal community, " The local Aboriginal community conceived of and raised the funds for the SUNDANCe award to help support our students achieve a university education. We are so pleased to award it to our students each year who are making a difference in the community and who are important role models for our youth. ".

To be eligible for the SUNDANCe award, students
must be a full-time Aboriginal (First Nations, Status, Non-status, Inuit or
Métis) student who is attending Wilfrid Laurier University, the University of
Waterloo, or the University of Guelph. This award was established to recognize
Aboriginal students who give back to their communities.
