Aboriginal Awareness Events
Traditional Tuesday
Tuesday, March 6th between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the RAC-W lounge.
On that day Six Nations Social Singers will come into host a community social that everyone is welcome to watch, learn or participate in and is a celebration of Haudenosaunee Social Dances and Songs. We hope to host a smoke dance competition as well.
Wednesday's Artist Showcase
Wednesday, March 7th between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. in
the RAC-W lounge
We will be hosting a showcase of local aboriginal musicians and contemporary artwork. The music will be a mix of Country, R&B, Blues, Hip Hop and Spoken Word performances. All local aboriginal artists are invited to showcase both original and cover music or display their work at the booths which will be set up in the same space. The entire community is invited to come and listen and experience the sounds and styles of our contemporary artists and artisans.

Therapeutic Thursday
Thursday, March 8th between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. in
the Aboriginal Student Centre (111 Darling Street)
There will be Healers and energy workers on site who will offer their services free of charge to the public. People can make an appointment for Reiki, Reflexology or Life Readings. To schedule a FREE appointment the public is asked to contact Audrey Anger via email at aanger@wlu.ca or they can send a text to Audrey at 519-770-6840 or Bonnie at 519-717-3411. First come, first served.
There will also be an opportunity to buy natural medicines and teas for any number of everyday maladies and to speak with knowledgeable elders and people who work with gathering and growing your own food and medicines.
At all three events there will be FREE fantastic food and refreshments throughout the day!

point in term where appointment availability is very limited. Please check the
on-line booking system regularly if you are looking for an appointment; as soon

Drop In Hours
Don’t forget that we offer drop-in hours on Mondays from 3 to 5 pm for all
students. No appointment is necessary. Students are helped on a first come,
first served basis.
We also offer English Language Learner drop-in hours on Thursdays from 3:30 to
5:30 pm.
Enhance Your Writing Style Workshop Series
This three part workshop series will run on Wednesdays at 4 pm in Market Place
beginning March 14. It builds upon the writing skills covered in Writing Well,
and follows a similar format. Students are encouraged to bring the assignments
they are working on to the workshops for feedback. Registration is recommended

Student Success and Well-being Workshop
The Light at the End of the Tunnel: Preparing for Exams.
This workshop will provide students with strategies for studying effectively

Volunteer Peer Mentor Program
Accessible Learning is now accepting applications for September
to be a volunteer peer mentor.
Purpose of the program: to provide an upper year student as a point of contact
and a means of support for (primarily) first year students registered with
Accessible Learning in order to help ease their transition into university and/or
Accessible Learning.
Time Commitment: Minimum one year, approximately 8-10 hours per month

Fun, Feisty, Feminism…WTF?!
Ever wonder what feminism is? Join The F-Word at a special
reception to launch the Find Your Feminism poster series, featuring students,
staff, and faculty at Laurier Brantford explaining what feminism means to them.
All campus and community members welcome!
After the reception, The F-Word hosts Dr. Susan Knabe, of the University of
Western Ontario, with a public talk entitled “Fun, Feisty, Feminism…WTF?!” How
do we find and forge feminist practice in the age of sound bites, social media,
and sexualization? Dr. Knabe will speak about how we can draw on historical and
contemporary examples of feminist interventions, from the early Suffragette
pantomimes to the slut walk phenomenon, to imagine a different approach to
feminist education and practice that speaks to feminists and non-feminists of
all ages.

Funded Internships in Ghana for Summer 2013
Information Session for
Applications (Due March 31, 2012)
The Human Rights & Human Diversity (HRHD) program will be awarding FOUR (4)
FULLY-FUNDED 90-DAY INTERNSHIPS IN GHANA each summer in 2013, and 2014. Funding
is provided by CIDA through the Association of Universities and Colleges of
Canada “Students for Development” program. (Note: This is a separate program
from the Laurier Brantford International Opportunities Grants.)
While preference will be given to Honours students in the HRHD program,
students in other Laurier Brantford Honours programs are encouraged to apply.
Students must be in the third or higher year of their program to participate
and must commit to returning in the fall semester after the internship to
complete an academic course related to the internship (i.e., Fall 2013).
The deadline for applications for the Summer 2013 internships is March 31,
2012. A PRESENTATION EXPLAINING THIS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM will take place: Wednesday
March 7, 2012, 10:00 to 10:45 in RCW 203 (This is in Dr. Wilson-Forsberg’s CT/HR260
class, but all are welcome to attend).

Third World Canada
Campaign
Did you know that there are people living in third world
conditions right here in Ontario? A small Aboriginal community known as K.I. is
in desperate need of your assistance! Aboriginal Student Services is looking
for donations of non-perishable items,
toothpaste, soap, deodorant, diapers, feminine hygiene products, shampoo,
toilet paper, etc to send up with the Ontario Provincial Police to this
small community. Drop boxes are located in the Student Centre and the
Aboriginal Student House (111 Darling St).

Laurier Wants Your Input!
Registrarial Services at Laurier Brantford is completing research on student
success and retention. The purpose of this survey is to gain an understanding
of what pressures students of Laurier Brantford are faced with, and how
students are doing across many areas of student life. Your participation in the
survey is voluntary and you may complete the survey anonymously. If you choose
to include your student ID number you will be eligible to win a $50 gift card
to the Stedman Community Bookstore!
Students who complete all fields of the survey found at the link below will be
considered for participation in one or more student focus groups. Participation
in the focus groups will be voluntary. Topics of the focus groups will vary
depending on aggregate responses to these questions, but will focus around the
concept of student success. Students who participate in a student focus group
will be eligible to win one of two iPad 2's.
