Christian Groups on Campus
Freedom House Church hosts two young adults groups on the lower level of Market Square Mall. The first, Marked Generation, is open to all students and young adults. Each week is different, but our main focus is on having a Christian community where we can discuss relevant issues facing Christians today. We are also doing a study on the book "Crazy Love." We meet on Monday nights at 7 in the church. All are welcome!

The second group is a women's support group focussed on having a Christian sisterhood, accountability and encouragement. We meet weekly on Tuesdays at 8:45 in the church as well.

Human Rights & Human Diversity Students' Association Event
Human Rights and Human Diversity Students' Association is presenting a screening of the documentary "Tony" by Invisible Children. The screening will take place Nov. 2nd at 7pm in RCE004. "Tony" is based on a story of a young man, Tony, who grew up in a war-torn zone in Uganda. Surrounded by violence and terror, Tony grows up to be an activist who will not stop until the use of children as soldiers comes to an end.

Invisible Children uses film, creativity, and social action to end the use of child soldiers in Africa, and bring peace and prosperity to the continent.

Come out and join us in viewing this new film from Invisible Children: "Tony - Lose All. Gain Everything," welcoming a crew from Invisible Children, and bringing awareness to our campus and city!

Do you have an upcoming Research Paper due? Are you concerned about format and how to gather information? The Senior Mentor for Aboriginal Students-Writing and Study Skills will be holding a workshop on Writing a Research Paper on Monday October 24th at 10 45 AM til 11 45, at 111 Darling Street. Please come with your questions and assignments and we will go over effective ways to write an informative paper. Don't forget that you can also bring in a specific assignment to go over one on one with the Student Mentor, at the Aboriginal House on Friday mornings, or by appointment there during the week. It's never too late to come out and join the Laurier Brantford Girls Rugby Club. Our focus is improving fitness and game skills in hopes of gaining varsity status in the not-so-distant future. The Campus Safety and Support Team would like to remind the Laurier Brantford community that we are a resource to all faculty, staff and students. Made up of a core group of representatives from the following departments: Counselling Services, Health Services, the Dean's Office, the Registrar's Office, Student Affairs, Residence Life, Special Constable Service, and Campus Operations, the CSST meets monthly, or as needed in urgent matters, to review process and files of concern in a confidential setting.

When should you contact the CSST?
If you receive or observe threatening behaviour (email, verbal, written, writing, etc...)
If you observe or are the target of violence
If you feel uncertain about an individual's behaviour on campus at any time
If you are unsure, it is best to report your concern.

We are having a meeting for new and returning members on Tuesday October 25, 2011 at 2:30 in the boardroom of the Market Place building. As a group of Laurier students, we will be promoting Brant-Brantford Crime Stoppers around campus in partnership with WLU Special Constable Service and will be having fundraisers to raise money for Crime Stoppers and our campus. Our meetings are always a great time and we really encourage anyone that is interested to come out and have a fun time, while providing awareness of the importance of giving ANONYMOUS tips to the Brantford Police if you have any information at all. From Special Constable Service
Emergency Pole now available in RAC Courtyard
An Emergency Pole is located in the RCW courtyard on the pathway from Darling Street near the stairs leading from the Student Centre/Post House Parking to the courtyard. The pole is simple to use: simply push the button and to automatically contact the Special Constable Service Dispatch Office (in Waterloo) which is staffed 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year. The dispatcher will answer the call and be notified on the screen as to the location the call is coming from. Your should then advise the dispatcher what the nature of your emergency is, and they will contact the Special Constable on the Brantford Campus. If you are unable to remain at the location due to the emergency, please be assured that we will know the location of the call and will respond to that location.

Please note: The pole should be used ONLY in emergency situations.

Changes to Campus Parking
Four spaces in the Student Centre/Post House parking lot have been marked as reserved for car pool parking. Theses spaces are reserved for car pool permit holders. All other vehicles will be ticketed. This initiative is part of the innovative LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for the Research and Academic Centre. In addition, Laurier Brantford parking at the Nipissing Education Centre lot has been relocated to the Queen St. side of the lot. Available spaces are marked with Laurier Brantford parking signs.

Presentations on Fully-Funded 90-Day Internships in Ghana
The Human Rights & Human Diversity (HRHD) program will be awarding FOUR (4) FULLY-FUNDED 90-DAY INTERNSHIPS IN GHANA each summer in 2012, 2013, and 2014. (Funding is provided by CIDA through the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada "Students for Development" program). Note: This is a separate program from the Laurier Brantford International Opportunities Grants.

While preference will be given to Honours students in the HRHD program, students in other Laurier Brantford Honours programs are encouraged to apply. Students must be in the third or higher year of their program to participate, which means that students presently in third or fourth year are eligible for the summer of 2012, second year students will be eligible for the summer of 2013, and first year students will be eligible for the summer of 2014.

The deadline for applications for the Summer 2012 internships is October 30th, 2011.
The competition for the Summer 2013 internships will occur in the Winter term of 2012.
