Laurier to graduate 2,543 students at spring convocation

WATERLOO – Wilfrid Laurier University will be holding its spring convocation ceremonies on Laurier’s Waterloo campus June 11 to 15, and on Laurier’s Brantford campus June 19 and 20.

As of June 7, approximately 2,543 students had met all program requirements and qualified to graduate. Laurier expects to confer 254 graduate degrees, 2,269 undergraduate degrees and 21 diplomas. On average, 80 per cent of Laurier graduands attend convocation ceremonies. The university will hold nine ceremonies in Waterloo and three ceremonies in Brantford.

“Celebrating the academic success of our students is a moment of great pride for our whole community,” said University Registrar Ray Darling. “Many of our students will treasure the milestone of convocation for years to come.”

Honorary degree recipients include award-winning novelist Joseph Boyden, automotive executive Ray Tanguay, poet and novelist Dionne Brand, and world-renowned clarinetist James Campbell. The university will also bestow two Order of Wilfrid Laurier University awards for exemplary service to the university.

The following ceremonies comprise Laurier’s spring convocation on the Waterloo campus. All ceremonies will be held at the Laurier Athletic Complex:

Monday, June 11, 2 p.m., Faculty of Education and Faculty of Music

  • 121 Bachelor of Education degrees, 47 Bachelor of Music degrees, and eight Bachelor of Music Therapy degrees, two Diplomas in Opera.
  • Honorary Doctor of Laws degree recipient: James Campbell

Tuesday, June 12, 9:30 a.m., Faculty of Science (Biology and Psychology)

  • 121 Bachelor of Arts (honours) degrees, 20 Bachelor of Arts (general) degrees and 46 Bachelor of Science (honours) degrees.
  • Honorary Doctor of Science degree recipient: Margaret E. McCully

Tuesday, June 12, 2 p.m., Faculty of Science (Chemistry, Computer Science, Computing & Computer Electronics, Financial Mathematics, Health Sciences, Kinesiology & Physical Education, Mathematics, Photonics & Physics, and general BA/BSc without designation)
