WATERLOO – Wilfrid Laurier University begins its new Conversations with Leaders speaker series with Michael Lee-Chin, renowned businessman, philanthropist and Laurier chancellor in conversation with Amanda Lang, senior CBC business correspondent, on April 10, 2012.

The new speaker series will bring together nationally recognized journalists with nationally or internationally prominent leaders from a variety of professions for spirited and inspiring conversations.

“Our Conversations with Leaders series is an effort to explore the concept of leadership in its diverse forms and to celebrate the many ways leaders enrich our lives," said Laurier President and Vice-Chancellor Max Blouw.

Lee-Chin, one of Canada’s most successful entrepreneurs, has frequently been included on Forbes magazine’s annual list of billionaires. As a philanthropist, he has contributed to a wide range of causes, including a $30-million donation to the Royal Ontario Museum for its 2003 renovation by architect Daniel Libeskind. Lee-Chin is chairman of Portland Holdings, a privately held investment company that manages public and private equity and has a direct ownership interest in a collection of diversified businesses. He was appointed chancellor of Wilfrid Laurier University in 2011.

Lang is a veteran business journalist who got her start at The Globe and Mail before moving to the Financial Post, first as a technology reporter and later as the paper's New York correspondent. She is currently the senior business correspondent for CBC News, contributing regularly to The National. She also anchors The Lang & O'Leary Exchange with Dragons’ Den panelist Kevin O'Leary. Before joining CBC, Lang hosted Business News Network's SqueezePlay. She is also a frequent guest speaker on business and economics.

Laurier’s inaugural Conversations with Leaders event begins with a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m. at the Toronto Board of Trade, 1st Canadian Place, Toronto. The talk takes place from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25.

Please note that seating for this event is limited. To register online, visit www.laurieralumni.ca/alumni/events?calendar_id=272. To register by phone or to make an inquiry, contact Siobhan Bhagwat at 519-884-0710 ext. 3180.
