CAS negotiations progressing with assistance of conciliator
Progress is being made with the help of a provincially appointed conciliator in the current round of collective bargaining between Wilfrid Laurier University and its Contract Academic Staff (CAS), who are represented by the Wilfrid Laurier University Faculty Association (WLUFA).
Both sides have met with the conciliator on three separate days. A fourth day with the conciliator is scheduled for April 28.
Conciliation is a normal part of the collective bargaining process and occurs in the majority of collective agreement negotiations. The conciliation officer’s role is to act as a facilitator and assist the two sides in reaching a settlement.
The University and WLUFA bargaining teams have met 29 times since the start of negotiations on Sept. 14, 2010, according to a schedule developed to accommodate the teaching commitments of the WLUFA members and the schedules of the University team.
The University remains committed to reaching an agreement that is fair and equitable for both parties, and in the best interests of the institution and its students.
