Laurier launches new Health Sciences program
Future Students - International
Dec 9/08
Health Sciences, new for 2009, is an interdisciplinary program that
approaches the study of health through a combination of courses in
biology, chemistry, psychology and math as well as applied health
courses.
The new Honours Health Sciences BSc was developed in response to overwhelming student demand, and takes full advantage of the teaching expertise and research strengths of faculty and instructional staff in the Faculty of Science. A strong health and wellness approach is fundamental to the program and is developed through applied health courses and community experience. This perspective, in combination with essential courses in biology, chemistry, psychology and mathematics, as well as in the Humanities and Social Sciences, prepares students for careers in medical and other health related fields such as chiropractic, occupational therapy, speech pathology, optometry and respiration therapy. Most of the core competencies covered in professional school admission tests such as the MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test), DAT (Dentistry Aptitude Test) and OAT (Optometry Admissions Test) can be acquired through this program and appropriate choices of electives.
