TORONTO – Wilfrid Laurier University professor Terry Mitchell will present “The Community Responsive University: Reciprocity in community service-learning courses and community engaged research,” Wednesday, Nov. 30 at noon as part of a speaker series at the Laurier Toronto office, 130 King St. W.

Mitchell’s presentation explores a study that suggests community service-learning and community-engaged research are largely university-centric. Classic models of community service provide a large service component to both student learning and faculty research. Mitchell will also discuss alternative models of community-university collaboration.

Mitchell is an associate professor in the Department of Psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University and has been the director of the Laurier Centre of Community Research, Learning and Action (CCRLA) for past four years. The research centre is dedicated to partnering with organizations and communities to foster understanding and action on community issues. Its mandate is to promote excellence in community-university partnerships and research that advances community health and social justice.

The presentation is open to the public. To register, please call 416-306-0866, or email Robyn Cook at infotoronto@wlu.ca.
