Laurier celebrates its generous donors

Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing

Jun 6/12

At a gala reception held June 5, Laurier President and Vice-Chancellor Max Blouw celebrated and recognized the university’s most loyal and generous donors.

A highlight of the evening included naming the 2012 winners of the Laurier Society Philanthropy Awards: The Lyle S. Hallman Foundation and Wilfrid Laurier University Alumni Association (WLUAA).

The Laurier Society Philanthropy awards are bestowed annually in recognition of exceptional generosity that contributes significantly to Laurier’s advancement.

Over the years, Lyle Hallman himself, the Hallman family, and The Lyle S. Hallman Foundation have shown outstanding commitment to Laurier. The university’s Faculty of Social Work bears Lyle's name and, most recently, the foundation generously supported the Building Bridges to Success partnership with Pathways to Education and the Inside-Out program. This support is especially meaningful as these initiatives reflect Laurier’s institutional commitment to new and integrated communities of learning, community focus and inspiring lives of leadership and purpose.

Meanwhile, WLUAA has shown a very strong commitment to Laurier. The association continues to do an exceptional job in fostering alumni interaction, promoting alumni participation and helping to maintain and promote Laurier’s reputation, while contributing significantly to the university’s ongoing development. To date, the association has donated over $1.2 million to various projects at Laurier, including gifts to the Library Commons, the Alumni Field reconstruction project, and priority projects at Laurier Brantford, to name a few.

“Laurier is embarking on its second century of excellence,” said Rob Donelson, vice-president of development and alumni relations. “This event recognizes and thanks our many donors who have supported the university so generously.”
