Laurier wins top awards in international marketing competition

WATERLOO – Wilfrid Laurier University won 11 top awards for its centennial and other marketing initiatives in a prestigious international competition.
Laurier won six platinum and five gold awards in the 2012 Hermes Creative Awards. The university also received two honorable mentions.
“The occasion of Laurier’s centennial provided us with an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the university,” said Jacqui Tam, assistant vice-president, Communications, Public Affairs and Marketing. “I am proud of the creative work that was done and pleased by the recognition that the university is receiving for the centennial work and for our overall marketing materials.”
Laurier received platinum awards for both its centennial history book, Leadership & Purpose: A History of Wilfrid Laurier University, and its drabble book, 100 Words Inspiring Lives of Leadership and Purpose.
In addition, Laurier won platinum awards for its national advertising campaign marking the centennial, a special Laurier100 edition of Campus Magazine, as well as for its overall centennial communications campaign, and its overall centennial marketing materials.
Laurier is the recipient of gold awards for its 100 Alumni of Achievement booklet and two newspaper inserts for the centennial celebrations. The AMCP also awarded Laurier with gold for its Brantford and Waterloo viewbooks.
The university received honourable mention for its Laurier100 reusable bag and lapel pin with the Laurier100 logo.
The Hermes Creative Awards is an international competition for creative professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of traditional and emerging media, as judged by the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals (AMCP).
The 2012 awards were selected from more than 4,700 entries throughout the United States and several other countries.
Laurier recently won two golds in the 2011 AVA awards for the university’s Laurier100 homepage and for the centennial website as a whole, as well as six medals in the 27th Annual Educational Advertising Awards for advertising and marketing materials created for the “100 years inspiring lives of leadership and purpose” campaign.
