Search to commence for Chief Information Officer

Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing

Jul 10/14

The role of information and communication technology (ICT) is increasingly important in the achievement of Laurier's strategic priorities in teaching and learning and research, connectivity within and external to the university, as well as in administrative efficiency. Accordingly, the position of chief information officer (CIO) has been created to lead and support Laurier's ICT needs.

The size, complexity, and demands on centralized and unit-level ICT have grown substantially over the past decade. The ICT unit is now at a critical point in its evolution where it requires the dedicated leadership of a CIO to provide strategic leadership across Laurierís multi-campus system. Reporting to the vice-president: academic & provost, the CIO will be responsible for the leadership of all information technology functions and will work closely with the Faculties and Library, the Office of Institutional Research, administrative units, Office of Research Services and Student Affairs, to ensure an integrated and intentional approach to information technology management across the institution.

The plan to separate ICT leadership from the AVP: Academic Services portfolio, at the appropriate time, was approved by President's Group earlier this year. In light of current budget challenges, the addition of a CIO is being funded through existing budget allocation within Academic Services, facilitated by organizational restructuring across several of the Academic Services portfolios as a result of recent senior vacancies.

The search for the CIO will commence shortly and the position profile will be posted on the Laurier careers webpage.
