Laurier moves to fully web-based application system for graduate studies
Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing
Laurier is undertaking a series of enhancements to its web-based graduate admissions system, which will give graduate program applicants the ability to submit a wide range of supplementary documentation online.
Currently, those applying to graduate school at Laurier submit an application online; however, they are required to submit supplementary documentation in paper format, including reference letters. The move to a fully web-based application system replaces this manual process and creates an improved and user-friendly platform for those applying to graduate school at Laurier.
The project will be implemented in three phases:
- October 2014: The applicant’s request for reference letters is automated and the completed reference letters will be submitted to Laurier online.
- September 2015: The applicant can upload additional supporting documentation including research statement, transcripts and résumé.
- January 2016: Graduate programs can communicate recommendations to the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies and view the status of applications in real time.
Communication with applicants will also be improved through the enhancements to the graduate application system. In particular, applicants will receive real-time information on the status of their submitted applications, for example, notification that documentation was received by the graduate program.
These enhancements will help Laurier remain competitive by creating a superior user-centred experience for applicants. By connecting the application/review process to the electronic offers of admission process implemented in spring 2013, these enhancements will provide significant internal cost-savings by removing the manual processing of applications.
