LCOL Edward Staniowski

Lieutenant-Colonel Edward E. Staniowski joined the Canadian Forces Primary Reserves in 1985 as an Officer Cadet in the Royal Regina Rifles. While with the Rifles he served as Platoon Commander, Training Officer, Adjutant, Company Commander, Deputy Commanding Officer and was the unit’s Commanding Officer from 1998 to 2001.
LCol Staniowski has served on three United Nations / NATO missions with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry including Bosnia, Croatia and the Middle East. His most recent overseas deployment was in 2004 as the Canadian Contingent Commander with the International Military Advisor Training Team (IMATT) in Sierra Leone, West Africa. During his six-month deployment to Africa, LCol Staniowski was the senior Canadian advisor to Armed Forces of Sierra Leone. Service with foreign allies has also included training and operations with the armies of New Zealand, Germany, Great Britain and the United States.
In January 2005, LCol Staniowski represented Canada at a multi-national operational planning conference in Nigeria, West Africa. The conference included other NATO Allies and representatives from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Secretariat, all working together with the aim of designing and coordinating the establishment of an ECOWAS Standby Force (ESF). The vision for the ESF is to give West Africa a rapid reaction capability to deal with future military or humanitarian crisis. LCol Staniowski has also contributed to several Pearson Peacekeeping Centre initiatives focused on building the ECOWAS capacity for policing, peace and security.
Courses and qualifications include CF Advanced Infantry Classification, the Army Operations Course (Canadian Land Force Command and Staff College Kingston), Joint Reserve Command Staff Course (Canadian Forces College Toronto) and the New Zealand Tactics Course (New Zealand War College).
On foreign and domestic operations, LCol Staniowski has served as a staff officer at the Unit and Formation level. Staff positions include: Senior Military Liaison Officer for the CF Joint Task Force HQ during the 2002 G8 Summit in Kananaskis and in 2003, as the Military Assistant to the Chairman of the Steering Committee for the Multi-National Stand-by High Readiness Brigade for United Nations Operations (SHIRBRIG).
LCol Staniowski is currently on staff at the Canadian Land Force Command and Staff College in Kingston, Canada as the Chief Standards Officer. Born in Regina Saskatchewan, LCol Staniowski is married to Captain Gillian Parker, 436 Squadron Trenton.
