Patrick Dennis

Research Associate

Colonel Patrick M. Dennis (Ret’d) (B.A. University of Windsor; M.A. University of Northern Colorado) is Adjunct Professor in Political Science at Wilfrid Laurier University, where he specializes in global political-military issues.  He is a former senior officer in the Canadian Air Force who served abroad for over 22 years, which included operational and senior staff tours in both NORAD and NATO.  He has over 2400 AWACS flying hours. In addition, he served as the Canadian Defence Attaché to Israel from 2001- 2004 and was the Vice Director for Training, Exercises and Lessons Learned at Headquarters United States Northern Command from 2004 to 2006.

A graduate of the United States Joint Forces Staff College (Norfolk, Virginia) and the Canadian Forces Staff School (Toronto), Colonel Dennis also attended the NATO Defence College (Rome, Italy) and the Canadian Forces National Security Studies Course (Kingston). In 1986 he was invested by Governor General Jean Sauvé as an Officer in the Order of Military Merit.

Previously published in Canadian Defence Quarterly, Colonel Dennis has more recently written a historical piece on NATO AWACS for the Canadian Military Journal and an article on World War I battlefield tours for Esprit de Corps magazine.  A more scholarly study on the role of Canadian conscripts during World War I will be published this fall in Canadian Military History.
