Cleghorn Battlefield Study Tour

22 May - 5 June 2010

This study tour is an unique opportunity to learn about the Canadian role in the First and Second World Wars on the ground in France and Belgium. Students from Wilfrid Laurier and from L'Université de Montréal, will participate in an ongoing field seminar, at Ypres, the Somme, Vimy, Amiens and Mons before examining the 1942 Dieppe Raid and the Battle of Normandy (six days).

The study tour explores “war and memory” through visits to museums as well as examining strategy, operations and tactics on the actual ground. Participants are asked to research and present a soldier biography and a brief talk on a topic selected in consultation with the tour director.

Successful applicants will be awarded a Cleghorn Battlefield Study Tour Bursary which covers accommodation and travel in Europe.Participants will be responsible for airfare and the cost of some meals.

All full-time undergraduate and graduate students at Laurier, including Laurier Brantford, are eligible to apply for a Cleghorn Fellowship. Preference may be given to students who have completed or are registered for courses on military history or strategic studies. Students with the ability to converse in French are also encouraged to apply.
