16th Annual CBF Battlefield Tour
A 16-day
Study Tour of Canadian Battlefields commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Canada's Navy
29 May - 13 June 2010
This programme is intended for students who are attending Canadian universities, including graduate school, or are very recent graduates, and who have a strong desire to learn more about the role the Canadian Navy played in the Battle of the Atlantic and the liberation of Normandy.
This year's programme of study is very special. As part of the 100th Anniversary celebrations of Canada's navy, the group will visit Iceland and the United Kingdom to examine the vital role played by the RCN in the Atlantic. After crossing the Channel, participants will then explore the Second World War campaign in Normandy.
The Foundation offers a bursary to each successful applicant but requires participants to contribute $1,500 towards the cost of the programme which covers air and ground travel, accommodation, meals, study materials, etc.
Participants will be expected to undertake background presentation, lead one historical on-site discussion, and make a biographical presentation of a Canadian soldier who is buried or commemorated at one of the sites on the itinerary. Participants will also keep a detailed journal describing their experiences; these will be submitted to the Foundation at the end of the tour.
The 2009 tour will be led by Dr. Marc Milner, University of New Brunswick and Dr Alec Douglas, former Director of History and Heritage for DND.
