People at Laurier

Lea Caragata, Social Work Lea Caragata teaches in the areas of policy and community development. Her research spans issues of marginalization and oppression including considerations of citizenship and the state, gendered precariousness, and the effects of globalization on marginalized peoples. Caragata is the principal investigator on a SSHRC community/university research alliance. The five-year multi-site research uses a social exclusion lens to explore the experiences of Canadian lone mothers in the face of retrenching welfare systems and non-standard work. Her most recent SSHRC grant explores resilience among lone mothers.
