Biography

Joann Freed has a PhD in Classics from the University of Alberta (1983) and is Professor and Chair (2004-2007) in the Department of Archaeology and Classical Studies at Laurier. She has written many scholarly articles on Roman pottery and collaborated on a book on a late Roman shipwreck in the Mediterranean Sea. She has a wealth of experience with archaeological excavations in Carthage in Tunisia and in Italy. Her present research interests include a catalogue of the amphoras from the National Museum of Carthage and the history of excavation at Carthage in the nineteenth century.
