Biography
Trained as a microbial ecologist with experience in sediment, soil and water microbiology. Nine years as a water treatment microbiologist studying aspects of biofilm growth control in the drinking water distribution system, biological filtration, UV and chemical disinfection of microorganisms. The past 5 years research interests have focused on watershed microbiology and source water protection.
Teaches: Microbiology: Principles, Applied, Microbial Ecology, Microbial Disease
Research: Isolation and characterization of potential pathogens from surface waters with a focus on survival and persistence of these organisms within natural populations. Recent studies have included an examination of microbial dynamics and distribution within treatment wetlands with respect to their ability to remove pathogenic microorganisms from contaminated effluents.
