Academic Background
Dr. Herbert Pimlott studied for his M.A. and Ph.D. in Communication at Goldsmiths College, University of London. His interests include alternative media; critical theory and cultural politics (e.g. Frankfurt School; Gramsci; Hall; Williams; language and hegemony; popular music and social change); history, politics and practices of cultural studies; discourse and rhetorical analysis and semiotics (e.g. of popular culture, and of economic and political discourses); writing and publishing studies (e.g. advocacy writing; documentary and social realism; magazine production; opinion journalism; popularization); political communication (Canada, UK); and labour communications.
Biography
Dr. Pimlott has taught communication and cultural studies at four different higher education institutions in Greater London, UK, while doing freelance editorial work and conference organizing.
He has worked in both alternative and mainstream media, including print, radio and television. His studies focus on the relationship between theory and practice and form and content.
