Biography
Jacqui has more than 25 years experience in communications and marketing in both the profit and not-for-profit sectors, and has worked in eastern, western and central Canada. She joined the university sector in 1996 as Manager of Communications at the University of Lethbridge in Alberta and has been at Laurier since 1999, first as Director of Public Affairs, and since May 2010 in her current role. Prior to moving to higher education, she worked in a crown corporation, a privately owned electrical utility, and a teachers' union.
She holds a
Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Memorial University of Newfoundland (1981), and a Master of Arts in Journalism from the University of
Western Ontario (1983), and has taught Business Communications at Memorial
University.
Jacqui is the
Canadian representative on the Steering Committee for the PR, Marketing and
Communications Network of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).
In that capacity she helped develop a communications and marketing awards
program for developing countries, and acts as a judge each year. She also
helped launch the bi-annual conference series for this ACU network in 2006.
Jacqui has
also been an active member of a number of other professional associations
including the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE) and the
International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). She has held a
number of Board positions for IABC at both the chapter and regional level. She
is also a frequent volunteer for CCAE, acting as award program judge, and
national conference committee member and track chair. She has given numerous
communications and marketing related presentations at the provincial, national
and international level, and written a number of articles for Education Marketing Magazine (UK) and
ACU’s Impact newsletter.
Jacqui has
personally received more than 35 writing and communications awards from CCAE,
IABC and other organizations. That number increases to approximately 50 when
expanded to include awards won by the team she now leads. She is also a
recipient of the Ontario Volunteer Service Award and the Alzheimer Society of
Kitchener-Waterloo 5-Year Volunteer Award.
