Welcome to the Department of Archaeology and Classical Studies

The Department of Archaeology and Classical Studies is committed to excellence in scholarship and teaching. We study past societies of North America and the ancient Meditteranean through archaeology, language and literature. Within a culturally and intellectually diverse framework, we are devoted to heritage preservation and awareness.

Archaeology

Archaeology is the study of human culture through the physical remains left by earlier peoples. At Laurier, Archaeology is an interdisciplinary program combining Archaeology courses with others in Anthropology, History, Classical Studies and Near Eastern Studies.

This unique approach has led the Archaeology program at Laurier to become one of the most comprehensive at the undergraduate level in Canada, providing students with a very broad understanding of the discipline.

All students are required to participate in a summer field school and are encouraged to learn by becoming involved with the study of the Department's many artifact collections from current and past research projects carried out by Department members.
