Reviews for The Political Economy of Media and Power
'Klaehn's The Political Economy of Media and Power is a thought provoking work that sheds light on the dark corners of capitalism and its media infrastructure.' -- Tim Pelzer, People's World
'This is an extremely important book. Bringing together an impressive
range of international authors, each chapter discusses issues of
pressing concern for the modern world. A must for any critical scholar.'
-- John E. Richardson, Senior Lecturer in Critical Discourse Studies,
Newcastle University (UK)
'This important volume brings together insightful commentators who
expose the insidious roles of power and profit in controlling and
manipulating 'news', information and debate.'-- David Cromwell,
co-author of Newspeak in the 21st Century (Pluto Press, 2009)
'Jeffery Klaehn has assembled an important interdisciplinary contribution to understanding the political economy of media as vehicles of propaganda.' -- Joseph Oliver Boyd-Barrett, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH, USA (Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly review)
'Klaehn is at the forefront of elucidating the Herman-Chomsky paradigm
and here he has produced his finest and most wide-ranging collection to
date.' -- Matthew Alford, author of Reel Power: Hollywood Cinema and American Supremacy (Pluto Press, 2010)
'Citizens engaged in direct democratic action as well as students of
communication studies, journalism, sociology, political science,
cultural studies, and critical theory will find this collection
illuminating and invaluable.' -- Daniel Broudy, Professor of Rhetoric
& Applied Linguistics, Okinawa Christian University (Japan)
'The editor is already one of the most important commentators on and
defenders of the value of the Propaganda Model. The debate between
Klaehn and several of his other contributors is a model of good academic
writing: open, status-free and respectful! This is a very useful
addition to reading lists for both undergraduates and postgraduates in
media and communication studies, in politics and social sciences.'--
John W. Robertson, Reader in Media Politics, University of West of
Scotland
'Jeffery Klaehn’s edited book, The Political Economy of Media and Power, presents new insights on the relationship between power and culture. Throughout the volume contributors reflect on the political, economic, ethical and ideological dimensions of the social forces that shape cultural processes. Interdisciplinary in its approach, the collection introduces concepts and lines of thought that will help develop critical perspectives for the analysis of media systems, educational institutions and public culture.' -- Joan Pedro, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain (Fifth Estate Online review)
