Biography

Dr. Barry Colbert is Director of the CMA Centre for Business & Sustainability and Assistant Professor of Policy & Strategic Management in the School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo.  His research is centred on the ways and means by which organizations align a vision for sustainability, corporate and business strategy, and the strategic development of human capital.  His writing has been published in the Academy of Management Review, Human Resource Planning, and the Journal of General Management, along with several recent book chapters, including 'The Business Case for CSR' in the Oxford Handbook of Corporate Social Responsibility, and 'A Complex Responsive Processes View of SHRM' in the forthcoming (2010) Sage Handbook of Complexity and Management.

Dr. Colbert leads MBA and BBA classes exploring sustainable strategic management, in which social and environmental issues are taken as the strategic domain for value creation, and leads the Organzation Theory doctoral seminar at SBE Laurier.  He has served as Adjunct Faculty and taught at the Copenhagen Business School (Copenhagen, Denmark), Dalhousie University (Halifax, NS), McMaster University (Hamilton, ON), and the Ontario College of Art & Design (Toronto, ON).  Dr. Colbert also serves as Board Chair of Sustainable Waterloo, a collaborative non-profit organization focused on advancing the environmental sustainability of organizations across Waterloo Region.
