Dr. Kotsopoulos is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education. She is the current Associate Dean (2012 - 2015) and was formerly the Graduate Coordinator (2010 - 2013). She is also cross-appointed to the Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Science. She was recently awarded the Hoffman-Little Award for Faculty for excellence in teaching, research, and professional endeavour.
Dr. Kotsopoulos's research focuses on mathematical learning sciences across the lifespan from a transdisciplinary perspective - drawing on research, theoretical frameworks, and methods from the disciplines of mathematics, cognitive neuroscience, developmental psychology, and education. Dr. Kotsopoulos has published in prominent research journals (i.e., Educational Studies in Mathematics, Journal of Mathematical Behavior, Journal of Mathematical Thinking and Learning) and has presented her research at numerous conferences, including the Psychology of Mathematics Educators and Society for Research in Child Development. She has an emerging research interest in post-secondary policy related to prioritization processes.
Dr. Kotsopoulos's research has been or is currently funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), Ontario Centres of Excellence, Knowledge Network for Applied Education Research (KNAER), and private industry. Dr. Kotsopoulos is an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT). She is the founding and current co-editor of the Fields Mathematics Education Journal. She successfully obtained a US trademark for her innovative LittleCounters® program. Dr. Kotsopoulos has adjudicated grants for NSERC and SSHRC and she presently participates on a SSHRC adjudicating panel for Insight Development Grants (Committee 5). She is a member of the Laurier Strategic Research Plan Task Force.
