Biography
I have spent most of my professional career teaching academic writing in some form or other here at Laurier. I started out teaching first-year composition and business writing part time from 1987 to 1995, and when the opportunity for change arose in 1995, I took over the Writing Centre which I have been running ever since.
What led me down this career path was a love of language and literature which I studied and taught in Denmark, my native country. I did an MA in English Language and Literature at the University of Aarhus, and a separate two-year degree in Danish Language and Literature at the University of Copenhagen. After graduation I spent five years teaching English and Danish language and literature to high school students at Oeregaard Gymnasium until I moved to Canada in the mid-eighties.
As a non-native English speaker I am for good reason very interested in language and how it works, but my main area of interest is the genre of academic writing and how to teach it. I have given several conference papers on both topics in Canada, USA, and Europe.
