Academic Background

My current research interests include communication and democratic theory, new media, religion and the public sphere, and the 'politics of life itself' (i.e., communicative issues associated with the recent development of information technologies of the self).

I teach courses that explore philosophical issues in the study of communication.

My current research includes article-length projects on popular music, new media consumers, religion and the public sphere, and the communicative ethics of human genetic engineering.

Biography

I was awarded Ph.D in Political Science from York University, Toronto, 1996. I then took a post-doctoral fellowship supervised by Professor Fredric Jameson at The Program in Literature, Duke University, NC, 1996-8. I taught at York University and the University of Windsor before joining the Laurier faculty as Associate Professor of Communication Studies in 2005.
