Originally from the United States, Dr. Julie Strom is a two-time recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship and has performed all over North America, Asia, and Europe. Julie completed her Bachelor’s at the Manhattan School of Music studying under New York Philharmonic principal percussionist, Christopher Lamb, and her Master’s degree from the Hochschule für Musik (Munich, Germany), studying under world renowned soloist, Peter Sadlo. She recently completed her Doctor of Arts degree in percussion performance from the University of Northern Colorado.
As an orchestra and chamber musician, Julie has toured and played internationally with the Munich Symphony Orchestra, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Boulder Philharmonic, Fort Collins Symphony, Steamboat Springs Orchestra, Greeley Philharmonic. Locally, she can be seen performing with the Guelph Symphony Orchestra, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Toronto Concert Orchestra, among others.
Past highlights include performing Bartok’s Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion with pianists Martha Argerich and Nelson Goener (Lübeck, Germany), Darius Milhaud's Concerto pour Percussion et Petit Orchestre with the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra, and performing under conductors such as Christoph Eschenbach, Kurt Masur, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Zubin Mehta, and Seiji Ozawa.
With a fascination for theater collaborations, Julie originated the role of the “Percushroomist” in the show, Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy in 2008 on Broadway in New York City. Additionally, she has written, produced and performed a one-woman theatrical percussion show entitled, Alice On Time.
