Biography
Intercultural communication competencies are critical to constructive dialogue, productive relationships, and success in every aspect of life at Laurier and in our globalized world. I am deeply committed to the intersection between intercultural communication, academic skills, and instruction.
I have experience both as an international student and as an instructor in international classrooms. As part of my undergraduate degree in English and French, I spent one year at a university in France. I am also certified to teach English as a second language, and I have taught in France, Japan, Korea, and Turkey. I have taught workshops in the Canadian university environment to international graduate students from over 40 countries, supporting them in their adaptation to studying and teaching in a Canadian classroom. Some of my previous research has focused on the development of teaching communication competencies in international graduate students.
I am the author of Communication Strategies for International Graduate Students: Surviving and Thriving in Canadian Academia. This book is available free of charge to all Wilfrid Laurier students, faculty, and staff. Please contact me at nlegros@wlu.ca if you wish to have online access to this book.
