As resources tighten, and as global competition escalates, it is increasingly important that we focus on enhancing excellence at our university. Therefore, for a historically small, close-knit and transforming university like Laurier, it is essential that we make choices about defining and enhancing our areas of excellence, and that we do this together as a community. No university can be exceptional in all areas, and for universities to flourish in the future it is necessary that they define and support the principles and priorities that make them strong.

The Integrated Planning and Resource Management (IPRM) process is an essential initiative for the future of Wilfrid Laurier University that is intended to accomplish this objective.

At the heart of this process is the question, “How will we continue to make Laurier a better institution?”

To answer this, we need to identify key principles and priorities that are critically important as we look strategically toward the future. Then we need to put resources toward those priorities.

In other words, the IPRM process is about putting incremental resources in the hands of those who will help us to thrive and to place us in the best position to meet the challenges and opportunities of our second century.

The IPRM process will require good will, engagement, much open-minded thinking, careful listening, and objective evaluation of evidence. IPRM will entail choices about areas that we need to enhance, areas we need to maintain, and areas that either need to be transformed or phased out. Change is unsettling, but Laurier cannot be unresponsive to the massive changes that are taking place around us and that will influence our well being profoundly in the future.

It is vitally important that you engage in contributing to this discussion of the future of Laurier. We encourage you to read the information in this website, which will be updated as the IPRM progresses. We also encourage you to ask questions, and even more importantly, to contribute your energy and ideas.
