Biography
After I earned my bachelor of arts degree, I became a teacher of music. I taught for two years, then became certified in ESL and took my first trip overseas as an English as a second language teacher. I spent one year in Korea with my wife, a fellow educator. That venture brought me a rich cultural and educational experience. I learned about my craft, my worldview and myself. I then decided to solidify my understanding of teaching and grow as an educator by going back to university for both a masters degree and a degree in education. Obtaining those additional university degrees gave me a good opportunity to both assess my previous experience teaching and gain new academic insight and teaching experience. During that time, I also co-ordinated and taught ESL classes within the local Hamilton, Ontario community. After another beneficial overseas experience teaching English as a second language on the beautiful island of Taiwan, I came back to Canada and was hired by the Halton District School Board. Working in the field of ESL was important to me, so I was pleased to find out about the LEAF program in Brantford. I have been with the LEAF program since July 2011. I have really enjoyed working with staff and students here and I'm happy to be part of a team that equips ESL students for university.
