I became an economist when I realized that economic issues impact so many social issues I care about. But despite the importance of economics, it can be daunting to try to make sense of the business and economic coverage in the newspaper. My goal is to translate economic issues so that journalists and the public can engage with important economic debates. For several years I was senior economist at Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, where I was involved in the “Alternative Federal Budget” and published a variety of papers on government finances, labour market issues and financial regulation. I joined the journalism program at WLU Brantford in 2012.
Recently I have taught Economic Theory and the Law (CT 310), Journalism and Social Change (JN 298), and Advanced Research And Reporting (JN 360/361).
