Biography

Dr. Thomas St. James O’Connor holds the Delton J. Glebe Chair in Pastoral Counselling at Waterloo Lutheran Seminary. He is a chaplain supervisor, family therapist and has published in the areas of pastoral care and family relations. He is an approved supervisor in the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT); and has served as a Pastoral Educator in the Spiritual Care Department, St. Joseph’s Health Care, Hamilton. He is a Supervisor in both Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) and Pastoral Counselling Education (PCE) in the Canadian Association of Pastoral Practice and Education (CAPPE).

Dr. O’Connor has published two books and over 35 articles in peer reviewed journals. His research interests are theological reflection in pastoral care and counselling, spirituality and health, clinical pastoral supervision and narrative family therapy. He does most of his research along with his wife, Elizabeth Meakes, who is also a family therapist. He enjoys playing the violin with his daughter Angel-Marie.
