Dr. Glen Carruthers was Dean of the School of Music at Brandon University 1998-2008. Prior to that, he taught for ten years at Lakehead University, where he was founding Chair of the Department of Music.
He has published extensively in the fields of musicology and post-secondary music education. His articles have appeared in many journals, including in the Journal of Musicology, Music Review, International Journal of Music Education, Clavier, Canadian University Music Review and International Journal of Community Music. He is a contributor to several books including A Celebration of Canada's Arts 1930-1970 (Toronto), which he co-edited with Gordana Lazarevich, Reader’s Guide to Music: History, Theory and Criticism (Chicago), Annäherung IX - an sieben Komponistinnen (Kassel) and MUSICANADA 2000: A Celebration of Canadian Composers/Un hommage aux compositeurs canadiens (Montréal).
He has presented conference papers and guest lectures in Canada, the United States, France, England, Ireland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Australia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Serbia, Italy and Spain.
Dr. Carruthers has served on many national and international boards and is currently a member of the Commission for the Education of the Professional Musician of the International Society for Music Education. He served on the board of the Canadian University Music Society for eight years and was its President 2001-03. He also served on the National Board and Ontario and Prairie Regional Councils of the Canadian Music Centre.
Dr. Carruthers was appointed Dean of Laurier's Faculty of Music on July 1, 2010.
