Biography

Dr. Rygiel is author of Globalizing Citizenship (University of
British Columbia Press 2010); co-editor (with
 Peter Nyers) of Citizenship, Migrant
Activism and the Politics of Movement (Routledge 2012); and co-editor (with Krista Hunt) of (En)Gendering the War on Terror: War Stories and Camouflaged Politics (Ashgate 2006). She is the author of several book chapters and has published research articles in the journals Citizenship Studies and Review of Constitutional Studies Her research focuses on border security, citizenship and migration within North America and Europe and citizen and non-citizen activism around migrant rights, particularly in relation to migrant and refugee camps. She is also working on a research project with Dr. Veronica Kitchen (at the University of Waterloo) on the securitization of policing that examines changes to security governance including the privatization and transnationalization of security actors and networks.
